Fall Into Beautiful Skin

Around here, when it comes to amazing natural skin care, we believe Mother Nature knows best. Nothing happens in nature by accident; everything has a purpose. Just look at how diligently Nature prepares in fall for the upcoming winter by exfoliating and nourishing herself.

The falling leaves create protective, moisture-retaining insulation for the earth. This nurtures the newly dropped seeds and prepares the trees and plants for winter hibernation. Eliminating the old growth and drawing the vital resins inward creates the perfect environment for a revitalizing winter sleep.

What can we learn from this? We can mirror nature’s elegant, mysterious process and keep our skin protected, exfoliated, nourished, problem-free and eternally revitalized during the cold, dry months ahead. Here are some ideas to keep in mind before the harsh, cold outdoor air and the dry, heated indoor air take a toll on your skin.

Our 7 Favorite Tricks and Tips for Beautiful Skin - Weather or not!

  1. Stay hydrated on the inside. Drink lots of water and eat fruits and vegetables with high water content.

  2. Stay hydrated on the outside. While drinking water is essential for life and health, skin needs oil to heal and to maintain that healthy glow. (Water-based lotions don’t do either.) Be sure to use moisturizers made from natural oils.

  3. Exfoliate. We recommend scrubs or dry brushing at least twice a week. Don’t forget to re-apply an oil-based moisturizer.

  4. Limit long, hot showers. Yes, WE LOVE THEM in the cold weather, but BEWARE! Hot water diminishes the much-needed dermal oil layer and causes small capillaries at the surface to burst – (those tiny red lines that don’t go away!)

  5. Pay special attention to your lips and face… and any exposed body parts when enjoying the GREAT outdoors. This will greatly diminish the risk of chapped, dry skin. We’re going to have a wonderful new kit for this!

  6. Create a Spa Experience at Home. Soak a big, new kitchen sponge in water mixed with a blend of essential oils (lavender, eucalyptus and lemongrass are my favorites for winter). Lay the essential oil sponge over your forced-air heating vent. Voila! Moisturizing diffuser!
This simple trick instantly provides three fabulous benefits for HOME, BODY and MIND. First, it purifies the stale re-circulated forced air. Second, it adds moisture to the room. And third, it brings hints of spring as well as clean, uplifting, cheerful energy to the soul.
  1. Hibernate. Well, sort of. Nature begins to slow down this time of year, but the rest of us keep plugging along. Indulging in a winter nap is the perfect way to relax and rejuvenate, Mother Nature-style.
